How to chop negative thoughts?

I never really understood why my hostel warden always insisted that we get up and take a walk when we fell asleep during the study hours? Wherein, my friend was an expert in sleep walk.

As kids, we used to fall asleep on our way home on motor bike mostly because of the cool breeze. As soon as we reached home, our parents fed us forcibly, so that we wouldn’t disturb them in midnight with hungry stomachs. However, with 4 to 5 spoons of food, we were back in our full energy and never knew where the deep sleep had gone.

People say, “drink Tea / Coffee to stay awake”.

I always used to ponder on all these kinds of experiences, where we were doing something and the sudden shifts happening with other action(s).

All these got answered with my NLP – Break the state concept and it became more profound as I practiced.

Sleep – nothing but a state of rest. It happens more naturally when you have nothing important to do especially with your mind. It is also a natural phenomenon when your mind is over worked and wants to sleep.

By drinking Tea / Coffee the caffeine traces stimulate the neurons and get activated, so that you will overcome that urge to rest the mind and continue work. However, this kind of stimulation in more doses over a period of time will land you in sleep disorders.

As social creatures we seek approval from our peers and it does matter at times. In other words, we are forced to interact with people either online or offline day in and day out. Somewhere or other, be it our self-talks, personal talks or media in general we expose to various views and the comparisons followed by negative thoughts creep into our minds.

That becomes a pattern or chain of thoughts or routine of habits in due course.

If not attentive to oneself, we may fall in to that trap and eventually to the more damage.

Now, let’s know the phenomenon behind this. The change of your physiology changes your thoughts and the vice versa. Because, mind and body are part of the same system.

A sip of hot coffee, eating food and getting up from chair and moving your legs are nothing but change of physiology and which rewires the brain and awakens and makes you attentive to re-focus on your task.

How will you use it to your advantage? Especially, when you are feeling low or depressed.

Your thoughts will not allow you to do anything exciting. But, volunteer yourself to get up and do some physical moves:

  • A walk for a mile
  • 10 push-ups or some simple stretching / deep breathing
  • Cleaning your desk or room

Anything that requires some physical actions.

What if, “I’m not feeling either”?

Remember, “we have to help ourselves first”

To build that muscle, follow these 3 basic steps

  1. Get yourself engaged in some social activity where you have neutral people from your personal and professional life
  2. Develop your personal passion – keep as many as possible to engage your free time.
  3. Have a long-term goal?

Last but not the least, we keep a bottle of water and wear a seat belt. Not that we get thirsty or meet with an accident. But just in case, we may get thirsty or god forbidden, it saves us. Similarly, the above 3 will help you not to fall in to depression, in case if you happen to be there, these will bail you out at the earliest.
